The Water Tower, Harrietsham, Kent

  • Role:Quantity Surveyor/Project Manager
  • Project Value:£600,000
  • Brief:Contemporary extension and refurbishment of the existing old Water Tower.

Optimorph has been pleased to be engaged on this exciting conversion and extension to the Water Tower. Optimorph was appointed as Quantity Surveyors and Contract Administrators as well as Project Managers to procure suitable consultants and tender the scheme. The elements of the scheme included curved glass sliding doors, large scale 'frameless' windows to the tower, a sedum roof, a copper clad bedroom pod on top of the tower, as well as innovative ground source heat pumps in bore holes. Early on Optimorph discovered that the existing live water main that had informed the previous planning permission was actually located within the proposed construction zone. Optimorph subsequently negotiated with Mid Kent Water for the diversion and removal of the main and removal of the associated easement from the site. For a very moderate cost this considerably improved the site's potential and increased the area on which the client could build upon enabling better use of this already small site, considerably increasing the footprint of the extension giving more accommodation and an improved living space.
